How the Hockey quiz works
A free daily quiz with rising stakes. 15 multiple-choice questions that get harder as you climb — worth more points the higher you go, with nothing lost for a wrong answer.
- 15 questions
- Four options each, ordered from easy to genuinely hard. Exactly one is correct.
- Right answers add, wrong ones score nothing
- A miss earns no points but never takes any away. Your total can only go up, so always take your best guess.
- The rewards rise as you climb
- Question one is worth 10 points. Question 15 is worth 100 — a fifth of a perfect round.
- No account, no timer
- Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for. Take as long as you like on each question.
That is the whole game — the scoring table and a few tips to climb higher are just below.
Scoring
What each question is worth
Six stages, rising in value. Each figure is what a correct answer earns. A wrong answer earns nothing and never costs you.
| Stage | Questions | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Trailhead Accessible openers. Most adults will get these with a moment’s thought. | 1–5 | +10 |
| Foothills Solid general knowledge. Past the headline facts, but nothing niche. | 6–8 | +20 |
| The Ridge Real depth in a subject. Expect to reason it out rather than recall it. | 9–11 | +30 |
| The Headwall Genuinely hard. Outside your own field, it is two answers that both look right. | 12–13 | +60 |
| Near the Summit Expert territory — a fact specialists know and almost nobody else does. | 14 | +80 |
| The Summit Built to defeat most players, and worth a fifth of a perfect round. | 15 | +100 |
| Perfect round | 500 | |
Strategy
Tips to climb higher
- 1
Read all four options. Distractors are written to look right — the one that sounds correct first is often the trap.
- 2
Always answer. A guess can only add points, never cost any.
- 3
Eliminate what you can. Ruling out one option takes you from one-in-four to one-in-three.
- 4
Keep climbing. The top three questions are worth 280 of the 500 available.
Details
Before you play
Does it cost anything?
No. Every round is free and there is nothing to buy. Running costs will be covered by advertising, which is not on the site yet.
Do I need an account?
No — no sign-up, no login, no email address. Opening the page puts you straight on question one. Your progress is saved in your own browser, so you can close the page and pick up where you left off.
How often do the questions change?
A new set of 15 is published every day at around 04:00 UTC (11 PM–midnight Eastern, 8–9 PM Pacific, 4–5 AM UK). Everyone playing on the same day gets the same questions.
Can I play a day’s questions again?
No. Each set can be played once, so your first go is the one that counts. You can look back over your answers afterwards, and any day you missed is in the archive.
Can I play past quizzes?
Yes. Go to the archive and pick a past day to play it.
Am I being timed?
No. Nothing counts down and there is no penalty for thinking.
What does a wrong answer actually cost?
Nothing. A wrong answer simply earns no points, so your score can never go down. The round continues either way.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The board and the question ladder adapt to small screens, and there is nothing to install.
What if an answer looks wrong?
Send it through the contact page and it will get fixed. Questions are generated automatically and nobody fact-checks them by hand, so mistakes do get through.
Ready for today’s climb?
15 questions, 500 points, and no way to know how far you will get until you start.
